I bought a used 2004 Rune. How could I find out when the warranty expires and do you recommend buying an extended warranty? Thanks for any help. Bonnie

Hello Bonnie,
The factory warranty in 3 years from delivery. Any Honda dealer can look up on their computer with your vin # to see how much warranty you have left.

Thanks David. Did you buy an extended warranty or are you?

Considering how much parts cost for the Rune (a lot), an extended warranty sounds like a good idea.
Honda Canada doesn't offer extended warranties, and I dread having to buy in the future a new throttle body for over $2000 to replace a $20 faulty throttle-position sensor that isn't available as a separate part. My throttle-position sensor is working fine now, but many on this board have reported failures (Big Black Smoke).

When I got my interstate I had the local dealer run the vin, and I applied for the warranty card (which I did finally get).
At thanksgiving, I bought the extended warranty (on a good sale, ie less than $400) from this sites sponser, honda direct line.

I don't presently have the extended warranty. I probably will be getting it though

The dealer said I have to bring it to a dealer for the first 500 mile service for the 3 year warrenty to be valid. True or BS?

BS
but many dealers say that.....trying to get you to do that.
in fact....TECHNICALLY....PER THE OWNERS MANUAL and the SERVICE BOOK...there is NO, repeat NO service on this bike at the typical 600 miles that other bikes have. this bike, like the VTX, lists the first service at 4000 miles. There is NOTHING listed for 600 (or 500 for that matter).
this topic has been debated at length here. yes, it would probably be a good idea to go ahead and change oil at 600....like most bikes. but per the manual, it is NOT neccessary or called for.
but even that first one at 4000...should you chose to wait until then, doesn't need to be done by dealer.....to "keep your warranty". I waited on my Rune until 4000 to change oil first time. On Sherry's bike, she has an umlimited maintenance deal from the dealer first 5 years of her bike....unlimited oil changes, etc. So we DID change hers at 600 miles....just for the heck of it.

Well I called American Honda and you are right. A 500 mile service by the dealer is not required and the first service is at 4000. I will change the oil at 600 like I always do and I always keep changing it a 1000-1500 intervals because it is cheap insurance.
