Do other states beside Florida have those wonderful lovebugs. I rode Sunday and I'm still trying to get them off.

I don't know if you're talking about the funny looking blask ones, but if so be careful. They have a very nasty bite. Two friends of ours ended up in the hospital from those.
So, yes, we have them here in SoCal.

Best thing to do is go to the carwash and use a pressure spray to get them off. Then come home and do the ususal washing, waxing, and polishing.
These bugs were introduced in Florida by UofF, just like kudzu. The bugs do not bite BUT will eat your paint off!! Be sure to spend whatever time you need to get them off all chrome and paint. It can be really ugly.
Some people suggest spraying the front of a car with cooking spray. I also hear that Mr. Clean will get them right off and not hurt your paint. I haven't tried that yet though.
Good luck.

Here in Florida we do have these pests at this time of year. In a couple of months we’ll be beset by another group of pests, the New Jersey winter tourists.

Donna has got it right. I think two things are important. Keep the paint and chrome waxed and don't let the splattered bugs remain on the bike-wash the bike immediately. I use a product called "simple green" Spray in on and let it sit for a few minutes, then gently wash them off. Then rewax the bike. works for me.

the love bugs don't make it too far north. but we do have them in South Alabama....both in Spring (March/APril) and in Fall (end of September/October). As i remember from my days i lived in FL......in Orlando to be specific...your season was earlier in the SPring (like Feb/March)....and later in the Fall (like October).....probably due to warmer weather.......
and yes, get them off paint ASAP....or suffer the consequences. i also lived in Southern Cal....and they didn't have them out there. Love bugs are small black bugs that.....well.....are attached together in couples.....because they are .....eh....mating, i guess 8) They fly thru the air attached together at the tail...........
In Alabama, i don't think we get them above Montgomery. I'm guessing they have them in south GA too......

They are also in Louisiana. I went to LSU back in the late 70's and they were all over the place in the early fall.

Ahh, I looked at them on google. We get Kissing bugs here. Nasty little buggers.
As far as bugs that like to splatter on vehicles, every year or so we get tons of Monarch butterflies, coming up from Mexico heading to Northern California.
Pretty, but messy.
The New York Mayor wanted to get rid of Piegons as they were costing way too much money on poop removal (Everywhere)More money spent on piegons then snow removal. A fellow from California said he could get rid of them with his red piegon at no charge. Yet the fellow said to the Mayor if you ask any questions it'll cost ya 5 million dollars. The Mayor though he had nothing to lose and he'd get a few more votes too if this would work. rune_giant let the red piegon go and all the piegons took off. The Mayor was amazed!!!!! But he had to ask one question to the bikeless hero (Do you have any red mexicans)? dog

Lovebugs spend their entire adult lives making love, kinda like those New Jersey guys. except lovebugs are atracted to the opposite sex.

We have them here In Savannah and across the river in SC. They have been really bad the past month or so... but it seems they are starting to die off a little. I took a ride from Savannah to Hildton Head SC (about 30miles) and the Front of my bike and windhield were almost totally covered. I've been having to was the bike every day I ride it. Sucks!

You're funny. We could use some of those here too actually. The Oceanside city council last night passed an ordinance making it illegal for apartment owners to rent to illegal immigrants. The ACLU is now suing, saying that is taking away ILLEGAL immigrants American Civil rights, though illegals are not US citizens...
A lot of people who are all for illegals having all the rights and services we get as citizens (who happened to be hispanic majority wise) spoke last night before the vote, and I think I came up with a pretty good solution.
If they really care and feel for the illegals who want to be here, then let them stay in your homes, keeping in mind that you have to provide room for Juan and his whole family (sometimes 10 or more people). Also, provide all their food, pay taxes for them, and put them on your healthcare plan. And when the Border partrol shows up, be ready to pay the huge fine for harboring illegal immigrants, or ready to go to jail (or both).
Immigrants are fine, and people who come here to learn, and work hard to become US citizens are important to the melting pot we call America. That's what the country was built on. Not handing out freebies to people who just show up (ask any of your British friends about that).
