I noticed the other day, while checking out Corbin's site and the Smuggler, that the license plate on the Rune there says "Runebag".

Crud. That's all I need is them trying to put a stop to this, or suing for the use of their name without permission.

So, I'm asking you guys and gals, even though the bags I'm making will always be non-officially 'Runebags', I need a cool name for the one's I'm making.

Put your ideas in this thread, then I'll pick the top 5 I like the most, put up a poll, then lt you vote. The winner will get a $50 discount on a set when they're available.

Sound fair?

Why don't you register a word mark? Similar to a trademark. If you have the right to use the name "Runebag" via a wordmark or trademark then nobody can dispute it. Just a thought....

I could. Trademark and or name mark registration is $250 bucks, and there's no guarantee you'll be able to get the name. Plus, runebags is a little too obvious (though, maybe just obvious enough). And seeing how helpful/supportive everyone here has been, it would be kinda fun to see what you all can come up with.

Beanbags.

Because of their shape. No Rune in the name because you could also use them on VTXs with the Rune-shaped rear fender.

Rune Giant

Interesting.

As far as using these on VTX's, that really won't work. The Rune fender has indents, the VTX does not. The first set of bags are designed to specifically fit the rune like a glove.

But, with the next one's I make, they will be a skosh smalller (since the VTX is smaller), mount differently, and so on.

Btw, saw some customized VTX's at the dealer yesterday. One was painted to look like a WWII plane, though the way it was done was kinda sloppy (all sorts of panel lines at different angles, not like the way a plane would be, and dirt/oil streaks not following the way the wind would go). But it did have the cool tail gunner exhaust. I would've done something to make it look like a WWI plane with that exhaust system though.

Hi All, I've joined your ranks!!! Thanks for the great postings on B-bar change out and synthetic oils. I picked up my "Burple" Rune last April and haven't look back(except to besure my fellow Harley riders are still with me and not wrenching on the side of the road). I went to Corbin that same day to have a Dual Tour seat made in black elephant with blue stitching and grey ostrich side panels. They showed me the hardbags for the Rune in the clay modeling stage and said it would be available in late 2006 or early 2007. Forward to July and Corbin lost my seat in shipping so I made another trip in August for another seat. I saw the Rune bags in the foam production stage with a trunk mock up. The bags and trunk look like the Yamaha's Roadliner/Stratoliner on the Corbin web site. They will be made of rotomolded polyethylene with a grey-black indoor/outdoor carpet lining inside. I liked the way their engineers used existing holes and mounts on the Rune so we won't have to drill our fenders. Corbin will paint the bags any color and may add some chrome accents on the final production release.......... October 2006, my Corbin seat is great. This time I went with grey Ostrich seat panels, purple stitching, grey python and grey snake side panels(bling, bling, pimp my ride). My fellow Harley riders are pissed because everywhere we ride people stop and look at my Rune and not their pride and joys. OK enough of my novel!! No sale date yet on the Corbin stuff, no price on the trunk but the hardbags are $1599 for single color and $1699 for the dual color for both bags.........mystery solved.

Welcome HD! thanks for the info.
I'm glad to hear Corbin are adapting a trunk ( the 'Streamliner' I guess, which IMHO is a really nice looking trunk that would suit the styling of the Rune very nicely ).
Did you manage to see how they were mounting the trunk, eg what were the mounting points for the rack etc.
I'd probably like to use Rune giants bags with the Streamliner trunk if that were possible

Thanks HD for the great update. I took a look at the bags you mentioned on their site. It will be interesting to see their solution for mounting to the fender. I think I've come up with a pretty slick solution. The good thing is the bags I'm making (we should have a working fiberglass prototype in two weeks, though the bags will be ABS...funny how Corbin is going plastic instead of "Fibertech") don't look like their's or anyone else's really. And there's going to be some pretty cool features as to how the bags work too, with some pretty cool options.

As far as a trunk, I wouldn't bet on their solution working with my bags. But I am working on a few designs for both a trunk that can be added on, as well as a unit that's bags and trunk as one whole piece.

So, here's my product schedule (if the first set do well). Megas: End of November. Standards: Spring 07. Mega Top-sider (the trunk): Summer 07. RunePaks (the big all in one unit): Fall 07.

The Corbin trunk rack looked to be made of solid steel 1/4 inch rod(since it is R&D the finish is crude and rough). The forward mounting points attached under the fender, maybe to the subframe tube and the rear mounts used the holes where the turn signals bolt on. The design engineer did not know if the turn signals have to relocate on the final product release. He did say that the Dual Tour seat was reworked to fit the set( I told him I wasn't going to buy another seat).

Me neither. I did the same thing you did and bought the dual tour seat the same day I got the bike. This was August of last year and they never hinted that the dual tour would be reworked to fit luggage. So far, I'm not a fan of the fleetliner bags. I think the Givi bags look better (the rounded ones) than the fleetliners. I can't wait til Rune_giant gets his done. At least we'll all have a choice between vendors.
