OK, now only 9 days untill I get my rune, so I have got to distract myself some how, so given that I have decided on windvest, should I go clear or tinted?

anyone wish they had ordered the other ?

I prefer clear windshields. My 84 Wing has a smoke shield, and until I get it replaced, I still have to remember I do NOT want to ride her at night!!! Especially when it rains and I duck behind the shield, I cannot see clearly. Atlthough I look over my WindVest on the Rune, so the color shouldn't matter, I like the option of getting down behind it for a break now and then. Day or night.

but, as they say, your mileage may vary.

This windshield is not for looking through,so tinted will be just fine,Also less swirls will be seen unlike clear. Another plus is keeping sun reflections down to a minimum. Less bug goo ugliness as well. I got one and it's great. Brings out the deep black in all the colored bikes.dog

....and look into the Cee Baileys replacement shields for the Windvest....if ya' think you want/need more protection. Not sure if they make one tinted though????? But they make bigger ones....ie 19x20 (verses 16x16 'stock' size).

i run 16x16 in summer, 19x20 in winter. have to admit, mine are both clear....but i've seen a few tinted ones....and i think they look MIGHTY fine!

Cee Bailey's has a number of choices for tint, e.g., smoke, blue, bronze.

I bought a clear WindVest and then a large clear CB shield. I now only use the CB. I think it has less turbulence, and for most of the riding season here, I need the extra coverage of the CB. I use clear because my laser jammer and radar/laser detector are mounted behind the shield: only the clear plexiglas has good infrared properties (98% transmission of IR).

I have a clear Windvest 16 X 16 sheild. I like the clear because when it is raining and I duck down behind it, I can still see. Also I believe the clear does not detract from the appearance of the bike as much as the darker glass. The last is a bit of a personal thing because I believe that Honda went to a lot of effort to produce a great looking bike and modifying it only makes it less great looking. I believe that to a fault because I remove my Rivco highway pegs when I'm not traveling because I don't care for that look either. At the end of the day, we all do our own thing. What works for you is what you should do.

how hard/fast is it to remove the RIVCO hiway pegs? Cause IF i would ever get them/put them on for a 'longer' ride, i'd have to be able to QUICKLY and EASILY remove them...to return "THE LOOK" to the bike.

so can it be done quickly and easily? If so, i may get a couple of sets for the wife and I...........for temporary use......

I have the smoked shield and I am very happy with it rain or shine! I have seen both as well and neither is a detriment to the bike.

I also have Rivco pegs and love them. It makes long ride very comfortable. Wouldn't want to be without them in the summer. It's good to get away from some of the heat of the engine.

Just ride and enjoy! That's what it is all about.

Thanks all, my original inclination was towards clear, its what I had on the harley and was the least noticable.

I think I go with clear again. I rode a black rune with tinted and it fit with the color scheme of the bike.

I'll be riding the bike home a hundred or more miles (its 80 miles to the dealer from my house, but probably 120 or more miles back to my house   ) so I'll get a good idea of how much wind is there without a windvest.

I am not really looking for protection, just relief from having to hold myself up in the wind.

On the harley, you had to hang on hard, or get blown back off the bike. (50 mile trips and forarms were sore for days). The windvest fixed it and you could actually take your hands off and waive at folks.

As you can see, the clear is not very noticable on the harley

tim,
I can remove the rivcos in about 10 minutes with a couple of t handle hex keys. They work very well but for most of my riding I dont need them.
I also have a sporttech quick release windshield for the same reason. It is a small tinted one. It is set up so the wind hits my forhead. They do not have aRune application. I had to modify my brackets a bit, but it works and looks great. www.sporttechinc.com (http://www.sporttechinc.com)

Tim,

The Rivco pegs are very functional, but as I stated above, I think they take away something from the estectics of the bike. That being said, the original set-up takes a bit of time/numerous test rides to set them up to fit your personal size, likes, etc, because they are designed to fit all sizes. Once you have them the way you want, to remove them takes seconds and your adjustments are not lost. I'm still working on getting a seat/backrest situation that will allow me to ride 600 milles without needing a massage to recover. Any ideas?:

i'm hoping with the Corbin seat and back rest...and perhaps those RIVCO hiway pegs.....maybe that will be the ticket?

So far, the way i do 600 mile rides, is i slap it on the trailer and take off in my F-150. I'm usually pretty comfortable the entire way with that technique   :P

3puttshank, thanks to Runeski, I ordered (and received!) the Ultimate seat w/backrest for my Rune. I was reluctant to spend the money until I actually RODE on one -- Runeski allowed me to mount his seat on my bike and take it for a spin! I was sold. I've been quite happy with it so far.

Thank you, Tim, for the info on the taller screen to fit the Wind Vest hardware. It's on order, and will hopefully be here soon.

John, how does having the wind hit your forehead work for you? Every time I get the wind hitting me there, it grabs my helmet and tries to rip it from my head. I've ridden far too many miles with my half helmet riding on the back of my head, shoved there by the wind. It is NOT too large a helmet, just the wind catches the visor and there she goes. Same thing happens with my 3/4 helmet.

DragonRider,
I definitely prefer the clear. I is hardly noticeable which is what I wanted. I had the tinted on and returned it because it was too, too noticeable and I believe took away from the lines of the bike, especially the black color. Maybe it looks better on another color, but I just wanted it for protection without being seen.....oh yeah, I do look through it especially in rain....you could slant it down like a sport bike windshield lay on the tank and ride your RUNE.

Here's the link to Cee Baileys Rune/Windvest shields

I haven't yet received mine, but I know that Cee Baileys has a good reputation for quality windshields. Plus, RedValk himself uses this one!!
