How have you guys broken in your Rune? The Veterans and the new Rune owners? I know there's controversy on both sides of the fence, ie. hard or not. Some guys have picked up Runes from dealers and then ridden them 300, 400 miles or for 4 or 5 hours at constant highway speeds I imagine.....Is it better to trailer it back and take it semi easy once at the destination around town varying speeds or with a constant throttle setting. Would love views and or pros/cons...I KNOW I'm probably creating one of the most controversial posts as far as opinions go but would love imput. I have heard recommendations of no constant throttle settings for the first X number of miles and also that it doesnt matter.
Check out this link I read on the VTX forum.....interesting and controversial..

i do believe in varying rpm....NOT riding at CONSTANT speeds the first several hundred miles. but aside from that, i am a firm believer in riding it like you plan to ride it later. ie....if you break it in "easy"....it MAY not run as good later....when you try to run it HARD. if you break it in running FAST....it will run good later when you run fast.
that's my motto. my dad always broke his bikes in VERY EASY....babied them. when i rode his bikes later, and tried to run them hard...pushed them....they ran like crap. and in fact, he and i BOTH had XS1100 Yamahas back in the late 70s/early 80s. that was a SCREAMING machine. he broke his in EASY. i broke mine in HARD (not abusive...but running FAST....and ....varying speeds). mine wanted to run FAST all day long. i could push it as hard as i wanted...and it ran STONGGGGGGG! His didn't want to accelerate....ran rough.....etc. i'm telling you, there was a VERY noticeable difference. to this day, i'm convinced our break in procedures was at least PART of the reason these otherwise IDENTICAL bikes, ran so differently.
run it hard, but vary RPM....go thru the gears. don't keep it at CONSTANT RPMS.....and don't run it WFO for any period of time in the beginning. (eh, if you don't know what WFO means....eh....suppose the term "wide open" will suffice as a suitable substitute   ) but don't baby it......

What Tim said.
Get the rings to seat and you'll have a powerful, responsive bike. Don't get the rings to seat and you'll have a dog forever.

what tim said. that is how i have broken in alot of cars and all my bikes. it does make a difference. break them like you want them to run.
i heard it said that the break in period it the final machining process i have also read that the break in period is not as critical as it has been in the past due to modern technology

PJ,
Funny you posted that break-in procedure. I did that on my '06 Wing
then changed the oil at 500 mi., still holden together. Broke my Rune in ALMOST  like Mom Honda recommends. Hopefully I will be around long enough to see which one lasts longer
