I hear from the dealer who sold me my 05 Rune that he spoke to Honda ref 04 Runes to be advised that they only have a couple of 04's left. Could be rumor but if anyone is considering purchsing your time may be near to running out. Obviously 05's command a $2700 premium due to the $500 year price increase & the fact that they all have the $2200 chrome wheel option.
04 can be bought for 16900.00 and 05 maybe 19000.00 dollars, you best be digging around to offer CA prices; from a Florida area! Nothing worse then incorrect info. Unless you're getting a large kick back. Everything is for sale and everything is very negotiable. I know it's not your fault you're just passing ignorant information given to you by a Honda know nothing absurd kinda wannabe sales person with very in accurate data that they all seem to make up as the day goes by,given to them by the idiot sales manager. The prices are going down (way down) They are a very hard commodity to sell right now. Honda will enlighten the stealerships real soon-when they want to unload the remainder of Runes or Bunes................p/s Nice seat though! dog

My dealer here in Cali says the same thing about 2004 almost gone and for that matter 2005s are almost gone as well. Roseville Honda gets more Runes than any other dealer (in Cali) because they can move them when other dealers cant.
He said its better for us when their all sold because the value should go up...its the supply and demand thing. I think Runes dont sell quickly because there is not any advertisements or media about them, it has nothing to do with people not liking them...how many people do you meet that dont even know what it is and are surprised when they learn its a Honda.
Just like the guy (BUY LOW) who just bought one because he saw it at Reno Street Vibrations and thought it was a Lambhorgini..Just not enough exposure.

Sport Cycles in Rockingham, NC where I bought mine had an easy dozen in their warehouse still in the crates. They have sold twenty so far this year and two were shipped to Japan. They said the 2004 CBC inventory is getting low since it was the most popular color. Also, the 04 models come either forward or pullback bars, spec 47 or chrome wheels. That's four choices for just the CBC and I could believe they are getting low on one of those choices, but not all.
I got exactly what I wanted. An 04 CBC with chrome wheels and pullback bars. I LOVE MY RUNE!!!

When you refer to "their warehouse" I'm betting they mean Honda's Warehouse. I don't think any dealer has stock piled Runes and many buyers are led to believe that their local dealer has a stash of unsold $28,000 bikes still in the crate. When I started looking for my Rune, my dealer said they had to check the warehouse inventory but I knew what he meant yet he wanted me to believe that these were their bikes and no other dealer had access to them, just another dealer game. I agree with Stewie. My 05 came from the factory but they checked their local distribution center (factory) which mine was out of Shreveport. I don't think any dealer would want you to presume that they have these bikes in "their" Wharehouse.
Once again gentlemen this is the last time I say anything on the matter, there is a ton of them, check out our list of vin#s and subtract that from total inventory that Mother has made and take away 100 Runes not accounted for from the Meek whom don't want any part of this board. leaves's us about 2500 still to be had. Honda has no problem crushing the remainder for the scrap metal profits-I've seen this done with many a bike. I especially like watching the crushing of Goldwings with about 300 klms on them (No serial numbers on these bikes) Many Valkyries were crushed too! 3rd world countries couldn't afford even the give away prices! Honda would dismantle and keep some parts for future part needed for folks like us,a manufacturer has a commitment to offer parts for up to 20 years after discontinued merchandise is finished with. It's a law required by Some higher powers. These are facts not something I'm making up. So I've said it before and I'll say it again all dealerships are liars when it come to stuff like this-we know more then they do or ever will. My guesstimate would be that Honda probably made about 4000 thousand units total Some dealerships can hold about 20 without having to pay a red cent to Honda until the sale of the bike, standard is one year free of interest. But since the bike is a lost to Honda and Honda's profits they will almost supply a dozen at no costs to any dealer. Just want to get rid of the remainder. dog
Dog, I'll agree that there are many not accounted for but to think that all but 100 Rune owners are affiliated with this forum may be far from reality. I would guess our fourm represents information on maybe 20% of owners not 90%. I'm a member of many different forums for vehicles, motorcycles etc and genrally have found that most people I run into that own similar items had no idea that there was even a specific forum group. I have said many times that I believe there are still many unsold Runes, perhaps as many unsold ones as those already on the road. BigV

Dog,
Maybe where you are from there are dealers that have multi units of Runes in storage. But in my neck of the woods, dealers will not even order one for you without a non refundable deposit. The dealers around here do not want anything to do with this over priced dead machine. If only people could ride it they would see that it is a great toy!! The problem is Honda riders are thrifty and spending this much on a one dimensional bike doesn't make sense. Look at the Wing....it cost more but buyers see VALUE and FLEXIBILITY so they cheerfully had over the money.

Actually, I was in their warehouse and looked at the crates with the salesman. My bike was already assembled and sitting in front of all the Runes still in the crates. It was pretty impressive.

I apologize if I'm wrong but to inventory a dozen Runes with hopes of maybe making $1000, probably less, just doesn't make sense yet I'm sure there are further incentives for this dealer to take on such a risk. I was told by a local dealer that they had no interest in competing with the current Rune pricing since Honda can make dealers wait for up to 6 months for incentive reimbursement. I don't believe it yet I'm just passing along just another rumor that's floating around. In regards to this dealer in NC, perhaps Honda has intentionally moved unsold Runes to this dealers warehouse since they've created much interest in these units and have had major success in moving them and in turn allowing general storage without the dealership having to purchase these until a buyer is found.... just a thought. There are some questions that come to my mind regarding the remaining new runes..
How many did they make to begin with?
How many have they sold?
And finally, how many are left?
They correct answer, as I see it is "i dont know" anything else is speculation and makes for some great posts.
I talked with a broker/exporter who owns the famous chrome rune. He said he has seen production numbers in the low 2000's. If that is correct, and if there are 3 or four per produciton number that would mean about a max of 8000 total..??? Only mother Honda knows and she aint talkin.
When I bought mine in feb 06 I was shopping with him.He is a exporter of motorcycles. At the time he had 4 on hand and another 3 in another of his warehouses.( he also had 20 1800 wings that were about to be shipped) He said that during the winter of 05 \ 06 that aprox a 1000 used runes were shipped to europe..
I would like to have crush the rest of them, that would certainly be kind, resale wise to those of us that were lucky enough to buy one. 8)
Honda doesn't want to share how many they made for losses reasons. All dealerships thus far have been given 1 year no interest and first 2000.00 dollars after the first year and lastly they have been given 3000.00 dollars for their upset non selling adventure in this fine Motorcycle. Mother Honda has shares in warehouse's with several kiss a$$ stealerships. They in return get kick back and first cracks at new product or extra stock or even color choices If a stealership doesn't play the game with Mother Honda, they can almost go out of business. Tiz why a lot of dealerships have other motorcycles for sale or large inventories of used bikes. Unfortunately I know a ton about the auto and motorcycle industry-it's worse then politics (almost)! My late Father owned one. One of my best friends owns one and some of my other friend and folks I know give me way too much information. I pity most salespeople whom have to pass on the bs that they've been brainwashed in to thinking it's the truth. Or their product is better and the competitions product sucks! dog

I'm not going to claim to be an expert on everything under the sun like Dog, but I can find no law (as he says) that states a manufacturer has to produce parts for 20 years for a defunct model. I believe it is more like 5 years. I'll state that as anecdotal conjecture and not raw Dog fact.

Just an observation. I was at my dealership the other day and just talking with the owner when he told me he could make me a really good deal on some watercraft. He was purchasing several 04 Honda Watercraft brand new from the factory. I asked him how come he has so many new old model bikes and watercraft. His statement was that Honda over builds off of specualtion of a particular model bike or watercraft and when they don't sale they offer them to dealers at huge discounts. Well we know that they really screwed up on the Rune projections so now the fall out. I wonder at times when they were building this bike if their egos have gotten in the way of actual marketing data they had in front of them.
It doesn't bother me, I got a great machine at a fair price I enjoy riding it.
Hey foreskin whats your friggin problem??? Isn't known that the Rune sticker can be bought for the money (6.90)I quoted as was previously written not enough proof, never got an apology for your( put up or shut up statement.) So let up dude. If ya hate your job and hate working:take it out on those who don't care either. Talk to the folks a JD Powers and ask them pal. I bring good info and you want to slam it- Do not write to me or about me anymore pal.unless you want to say sorry in front of this crowd, nobody will think of you as a coward but will appreciate anything else you might have to say in the future. This might not make sense but urine off! dog
Most of this thread contains rumors, speculation and perhaps a bit of real hardcore knowledge. Dog as well as many other members have brought some very useful information to not only me but many others as well. Whether a manufacturer has to stock parts for 5, 10, 15 or 20 years doesn't really matter, does it? I don't expect to have my bike in 2025 but if I happen to hold on to it, there's always ebay, right?? We all know we can find almost anything on that site. There is incredible information shared on this site and if someone doesn't agree with someone elses post either send a PM or just try and carefully word a response in a more suitable way. Still, some will get offended but most will appreciate it and respond back in a less harsh fashion. Hey, we're a special group of Rune owners and we should start getting ready for a great riding season, that is of course if mother nature can bring some warm weather to the Northeast. BigV

Isnt that what most dealerships like to do is carry 2 & 3 yr old motorcycles in their warehouses....I doubt it. They want the new model year motors every year. Dog thinks its a Honda Rune conspiracy going on....they have meds for that kind of thinking. We met the California district sales manager for Honda and he said even if Honda made 3500 Runes on the high side its still a very rare bike in comparison to the 100,000+ Honda bikes they sell annually. You definitely wont see the streets flooded with Runes any time soon and most are literally hundreds of miles apart unless you live in Roseville.

Dockery - I did quote him correctly. Here it is directly from Dog:
"a manufacturer has a commitment to offer parts for up to 20 years

Not sure where exactly Dog gets his information. When asked to
supply his sources, he falls strangely silent
Dog - I'm having trouble understanding your post. I can't find 3 words
that can be connected into a coherent sentence. In other words,
does that train of thought have a caboose? JD Powers? How did
my job enter the discussion? Resorting to name calling? Dude, you
are a class act - not! Please don't state your opinions as fact.
Oh, I almost forgot your other famous quote:
"Tom already posted the sticker price as 6.90. Cali sure rips you
guys off." Since when does living in California influence the price
obtained from a web catalog? It might affect shipping and tax,
but not the listed price of a catalog item. You sure got some
funny notions.... Oh and why would I apologize? Because I asked
you to post the source of your info or shut up? I noticed that you did
shut up on that thread. I've asked you privately to post info like
what web site or part number you are referencing. Since you want
to air your dirty laundry publicly, well here you go...

Yes that is the quote, but the first time you wrote:

Not the same. Not even close to the same meaning.
That is one of the problems with email, PM's and posts, it forces the reader to decide what emotion the poster intended. They are forced to guess. Just like we are forced to guess your meaning and intentions around your posts, (not sure if you are actually trying to be a tool, or you are just coming off that way). If you are going to have a war of words, which clearly has been your intention for the past few months, then use the exact quote. Use the button if you need to. Otherwise you look even more phony in your attempts.
So help us out. Tell us why don't you post why you don't like the dog, and why you are trying to submarine anything he posts Then we will understand your intentions.

Dockery, thanks for the clarification. I've got no beef with you, so you should really let Dog speak for himself. I've had the decency to PM him and get things aired out, but he refuses to reply. He'd rather post flames in public forums and resort to name calling, like you just did. So, don't turn into a "tool" yourself. He's a big boy. If he shoots off his mouth and someone calls bull*****, don't come crying about it later.

Yea Kennison unfortunately died way before his time and the Dice Man sucumbed to network pressure and was cencored. I saw him for a one night stand in Vegas last year. He got off the same plane as I from Miami. No limo to pick him up, got a taxi like the rest and there were only a handful of people there to laugh at his old jokes. Hard to imagine he was the only comic to ever sell out the Garden. If you still have an interest, all his rhymes are listed on the net. They were classics and some I had never heard before. Sorry to get off topic, but the man did make us laugh.

Found this on the FTC website
Federal law now requires manufacturers to stock enough parts after a model is discontinued to cover the entire warranty period, including manufacturers' extended warranties of up to 10 years and 100,000 miles.
This was in regard to the federal Magnuson-something or other warranty act.
It also referred to car manufacturers, so I am not sure how or if it relates to cycles.
