I know this goes on a lot... Goldwing riders dont like Harley riders, Harley riders dont like anyone else but Harley riders, etc... In my "younger" years I too was like that.. I smirked at suzuki riders, or anyone else that was not "smart enough" to get a Honda... now, i admire and respect pretty much all riders, no matter what they ride (except for those that try to ride scooters on the interstate..)... Why is it that so many bikers are "against" others with other makes\models?

I think there are two kinds of riders out there:

The ones that are into the status symbols of riding and those that are in it for the pleasure of riding.

Status: says we only ride with our kind
Pleasure: says Ride :biker:

Ever hear about the teacher from the mid west that did a class experiment separating the blue eyed kids from the brown eyed kids. She did this to help kids understand blacks in the south. Her name is Jane Elliott.

Google Jane Elliott see what comes up.

It's human nature and it's not pretty :!:

Heck we've got groups on this board of Runes. :chat1:

IB, CBC and DCB or Chrome, no Chrome or Helmet, no Helmet or New Jersey, Florida or Trailer, no Trailer :)

I own and ride Runes, Hondas, Suzukis, Yamahas and Kawasakis both on and off road. Do I need to get Harley so I don't seem prejudiced?

I use to look up to Harley dudes cause of my brothers affiliates and his bros. I really looked up to Harley owners; now I look at them when it only takes third gear to pass them. And the odd mag or email sign Dockery fills up the board with (That con)! Their slogan is 'live and let ride' They could at least follow their own slogans! dog

I'm good with Harley riders. Most of them are very cool and we don't seem to have the biker gangs in this state where I would be afraid to wear group colors(if I had such a thing) in a bar. I see and visit with them at all the Florida bike shows. They seem to be knowledgeable about their bikes-they need to be;HEHEHE. That said, not too crazy to ride in a Harley group due to the noise of the bikes. I feel that when I can't hear my own because of theirs, its time to make a change. As for all the other bikes; it is a lot of fun to visit and see what they got. Part of being a biker. :D

i don't see a prob.....either,,,,but i have rode all kinds, now i do see a difference in crotch rocket riders and cruiser riders....most cruiser riders won't have anything to do with crotch rocket riders.......are mostly squibs..
a squib is a crotch rocket rider that wears shorts and tennis shoes and does not follow the the rules of the rode......

I consider myself a motorcyclist. I personally have never seen a bike I didnt like. I just love motorcyles. Most my local riding buddies ride harleys and cruisers. I chose goldwings years ago. just because I like them and they suit my needs.
when i go to a bike night or show I check em all out. and i will chat up the owner a bit as well, no matter what the bike. I like the guys who like bikes and the fellowship riding brings.
I wave to most and I march to my own drum as far as bikes are concerned.
i told one of my buddies, in reference to my rune that I wanted something unique, so it was this or a black harley

Most of the guys in my work m/c club ride harleys. If a bike ride is over 100 miles they start whining "its to far". We did in run to Big bear last year, 220 miles round trip. I had to make a extra set of directions for those who wanted to turn around at the 50 mile potty stop.
I did a 530 lunch run last saturday.

I do hate squids, they ride like idiots. Wheelies, stoppies, sidesaddle, lane splitting at 80 mph, just maroons in general. Most cruiser guys ride okay. Just give bikers a bad name in general.
Ive had some harley guys slam the rune and others like it. The harley riders I see here in CA, 70 % come out of the same mold.
1. fake beany helmet 1/4 inch thick (chrome cause he's cool)
2. dirty short sleeve tee shirt (james dean look)
3. vest ( spent to much on bike to afford something with sleeves)
4. gloves with no fingers (again saving money)
5. dirty levi's or shorts
6. big clunky looking boots that look like they just walked thru a pig pen.
7. wallet with chain
8. full beard (with things living in it)
9. loud pipes
10. any road trip ends at bar.
11. 150 lbs overweight with gut hanging out of tee shirt
12. ear rings
13. 52 tatoos
14. hes had the bike 4 years and its got 1400 miles on it.
15. Plus a 20 year old babe on the back. Dial 911, either its her dad or shes been kidnapped!

Some guy today asked what I rode. (beard, grungy, pierced ear, vest, guess what he rode)
I said a Honda rune. He said "oh".
I said what? You thought I'd say harley. Sorry no way. He made some other comment and I said my bike is one of 1200 here in the U.S. A harley is one of 5 million and looks like everyone elses.
Later dude, dont get on the wrong bike.

My take-
I like most bikes and until the Rune had never even considered a cruiser because I associated the cruiser look with Harley (which I like to call "Hardley Makes-it-home"). Fortunately the Rune is so unique and well engineered that it isn't even in the same category as Harley.
I guess I have a deep seeded resentment for Harleys ever since their ealry 80's lobbying campaign that got an import tarrif slapped on foreign made (Japanese) bikes so Harley could compete. Seems that at the time they were building overpriced crap that wasn't selling so they wanted everyone elses prices to be closer to theirs. As a result, I had to pay more for the bike I wanted just so Harly could survive.
Nowadays, I just look at the majority of Harley riders here in California as outlaw wannabes who snub non-harley riders on the road. I used to the wave to all riders but gave up on Harleys a few years ago. I do stay ready to wave just in case one of the pack decides to wave first but that doesn't happen very often.
One thing I've noticed is that when I'm on the BMW, 99.99% of Harley riders won't acknowlege my presence but on the Rune it may only be 75%. Either way I'm happy knowing I can smoke 'em all no matter what I'm on!!
Okay....I'm ready for the critics :!:

I will try again. If you want to read some funny stuff, go to the Wing board. http://www.gl1800riders.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=81798
They have a special board set up for pounding on Harley guys. Some of the comments are very clever.

i have a collegue who has a heritage, black, imagine that, he always tells me he bought it 9 11 01 and he has 2400 miles on it.he mention the mileage thing this fall at aqcmpany function shorty after the ralley in erwin. I said I rode that many miles last week, and he laughed, and I then I had to explain to him I wasnt joking...

i have another buddie who has an electra glide standard, black imagine that, as he watched the crowd anround the rune, and after he stared ar it for a while all he could say was, sure looks good, but it just doesnt have that sound..to which i said nothing figuring i would be wasting my breath.
i will tell you that i love the look of a road king or heritage. pure classic imho. i bought a used road king a few years ago just to put some time in the saddle and see what it is all about. Here is what I found out, it rode great, handled and braked poorly. I did like the overall feel. However after having valks and wings the bike seemed small and it just bored me to tears, i just couldnt justify keeping it because first and foremost for me it is about the ride and it was no fun to ride. If I could buy a nice one for what i would pay for a 97 shadow then i would get another, just to look at and piss the neigbors off ocassionally.

i was at a big bike night with it one time and it took me twenty minutes to ind it, did i mention , it was black as well

bump... after reading some of the posts, it is clear that some of us really have a grudge against other bikes.. (goldwings)... why is that?? That have they done to get this bad wrap??
