It depends what dealership you get it at....Either Lambo or Mcdonald Douglas. Mine came out of a Hughes Notar MD500 helicopter

excellent observation
Not only for Mother Honda but a 'Special' Treat for any dealer to have in their dealership stewie that was pathetic and he is a dumbass. My first place that I offered 21500.00 cash for didn't know how to open the seat and didn't know what HISS stood for or how to unlock the steering. I asked to see the manual, they asked me to come back later cause it's under the seat. My offer was laughed at in the meantime. I went else where and saved over 4500.00 on new. They didn't know much more than the other dealer,They were glad to see it leave. It probably was embarrassing for them when somebody showed interest to ask a few easy Q & A. Now the Mechanics suffer, whom have to work on them. dog

But I was only thinking it!
Cut a Rune a break, for crying out loud.

Hey Stewie and other Honda riders,
This is a common problem with Honda dealers. Honda makes a great product but doesn't know SQUAT about teaching the dealerships about customer service and product knowledge. If you learn this you won't be disappointed when you go into one of their dealerships. They could take a few lessons from Lexus, BMW, Harley Davidson, and other high end dealers.

I new this statement would draw fire from someone. Let me explain....I in no way intended to mean that the Harley was a better machine or of higher quality than what we ride. However, Harley has established a culture that welcomes Harley riders into the dealership. In any dealership there is a standard of how they treat their owners. They have well trained sales staff and parts personel. This culture is not something you luck into but rather established by the motor company and passed down through the dealers. Even though each dealership is independently owned there are standards that have to be met in order to keep that dealership in force. Honda doesn't seem to have those customer/dealer standards.
If you have ever owned a Lexus or BMW you know the experience I am talking about.

my wife and i were on our way down to new orleans a few years ago and i thought i stop at some honda dealers along they to pick up some dealer tshirts.. not only couldnt we find them, they just were not that friendly either.. Now, you must understand, my wife hates harleys.. and cant understand why anyone would want one. I had over the years tried to explain to her the harley experience, especially the dealership experience.
the last dealership we stopped at before we got into new orleans was in slidell, la. slidell hd. a newer dealership. my wife could not believe how different the experience was . the greeted us showed us around etc. when we walked into the honda dealerships and it was like we were invisible.
not only do they do it well, they wrote the book on the whole lifestyle sales/image thing.

As far as the second bike with the radial engine, I can see the first one being ok with it being parallel to the bike, but being perpendicular, doesn't the bike want to flip over??

I have never owned any bikes other than Honda's, But hogzilla is right H.D. knows how to treat their customers and knows how to make them fell important. When I travel abroad I bring back H.D. T-shirts.
In my opinion Honda = Superior Product - Inferior Customer Service
now thats a cool Rolls/Royce radial engine......
probably not but made after the spec design....

I thought they took a Goldwing and hopped up the engine and tranny a bit. Geico's documents from Honda say 2000cc's. In any event, its a nice bike with mods it could be even better.
Honda has 3000 Rune's sitting in the warehouse so the price will come down a little more. The price point is a little high when you consider you can buy a Goldwing for $17000. with all the seats and gauges.

Rockenrob....you must have inside info that none of us have regarding the number of Runes still sitting in warehouses...is that hearsay or factual?
I have heard from a Honda Exec that it somewhere around 3500 total...I'm sure thats what Honda wants is to stockpile Runes that are 3 yrs old...They would have them on the showroom floors trying to get rid of them if that was the case...maybe they will wait til 2010 and re-vin them and sell them new....yeah right.
You say the price point is still high but go try to buy a custom bike like Big Dog, Bourget or paramount custom cycles and youll pay 35gs+ for a bike engineered by some tweeker...youre getting Honda engineering and its comparable to a custom bike....but way better.

Let's include Honda in the list of dumb A$$ dealers because I think that both Rockenrobert and Hgslayr got it right, even though they are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Yes, the Rune is a masterful piece of craftmanship- the problem as I see it is that we on the board know that, but does the buying public get it. Even the sales people at the Honda stores know very little about it. Honda does nothing to promote the Rune. If a buyer came in off the street and sees an 07 Wing at 17K and sees an 04 Rune for about the same money Chances are that person chooses Wing. We shall see. I hope the price does go down some. I would like an 05 in the 17K range. I don't think another Rune or anything like it will be built new and sold for less than 30K. If they are getting 10-12K for the old Valkyries, what is the Rune going to be worth in 5 years.

I think Honda is doing the right thing. What, flood the market with 3000 bikes of 04 and 05 model year and reduce the exclusive image and reduce the price point even more, no, reduce price here and there and slow release to maintain image for product and find the majic sell point
where it's conceived as a buy and get her done.

if i were a honda motorcyle salesman the last bike i would concern myself with is a rune. most dealers only had a few, many had none. they havent made them in almost three years. And I would have, as a honda powersport salesman, there is alot of product to learn.Atvs, dirtbikes, watercraft etc etc. And if you dealer is multi franchised. And product knowledge is important as you all have said and how many people walk in the door looking for a rune any how??
That being said, I would think just working at a motorcycle shop i would just want to know about the rune in a casual sense, as a motorhead. I can state that I know more about hd's than any of my hd buddys do .
As a former car salesman(now a salesmanager) i always had great knowledge about my products. In the box of sales tools it is the one that can help finding that right unit for your client.

If there are 3,000 bikes remaining, Honda has a problem: How long do they sit on bikes that are already 3 years old and how do they get rid of them without making it look like the Rune is a failure? It looks to me that no one has a plan to address that issue. Based what I read on the other boards, people are not interested in spending 18-20K on a 3 year old bike.

I talked to my local Honda shop yesterday about the runes... he printed me off a list of runes still in the warehouse... there were about twice as many 04 models as 05's... granted that may be only one of many warehouses.... he said honda has come off the price a little more on them for the dealers, but he has no intention of buying one an putting it on the floor... he said it just would not sell... now goldwings and other models, he cant keep them in stock becuse they sell so fast... the rune is an "exotic'... and I think that helps and hurts the bike... you have to really want that bike to send that kind of money on a 04 or 05 bike, when you can spend less on a "brand new" current year goldwing, crotch rocket, cruiser, etc.... i hope that if honda comes to the end of the line on the runes and they have the option to either sell them off at pennies on the dollar or destroy the remaining stock...
I've seen them keep motors and crush the remainder,I've also seen them crush the works too! They also could change out the motors and add them to something in the near future (Say a New Valkyrie) Save some parts for warranty issues etc etc. dog

I think Dog is on to something. I'd like to mothball a Rune motor and trans so I can do a refresh in 10-15 years. Just like when they shut Indian down, you could still buy the Indian crate motors for a while afterward. Why not stow a complete Rune power train?
