All modern helmets include several layers of protection, starting with an inner liner that can be removable and washable, padded for a comfortable fit, have moisture-wicking and antibacterial properties, and so on. The mid-layer of Styrofoam is designed to absorb most of the energy of impact in a collision. The outer shell – is the most prominent and most important part of any helmet.
