My day is great and I hope yours is too. I appreciate the legal wording and links provided, but I still maintain the VIN is on the frame and is the same as the OEM VIN sticker. I guess if one is into collecting VIN stickers it would be important to have it, but I have never heard of any US DMV refusing to register any motorcycle without the VIN sticker as long as there is a VIN on frame's head stock and proper documentation. If you or anyone has empirical evidence contrary to this I would love to hear about it.
Anyone has different(non matching) or not complet numbers on their VIN sticker and the Frame stamped numbers on head stock please post a pic.
In Calif. the the Calif .Highway Patrol issues VIN numbers on all vehicles that have no numbers, after checking all documentation of ownership the new aluminium plate with stamped VIN numbers is riveted in place(head stock) in custom made or a one off MC, home made trailers and anything that needs a VIN.
I have always used the VIN stamed on the head stock when checking a motorcycels legal status.
Yes, there many ignorant people out there, but I suspect not everyone in the DMV is ignorant and you have never broke the law?.
I'm going riding now as the weather on the left coast has gotten marvelous for riding.
