After having the Rune for 19 years ( as most know I sold it last year ) I can say it was a comfortable ride, but not for the long haul. The Gold Wing is the ride for long trips!

"19 years as a Rune owner as well...

Just how many miles has Jay Leno put on a Rune at one time or all together? The stock/OEM seat SUCKS!!! After 50 miles you asked yourself WhoTF designed/made this POS of a seat. No wonder a new one only cost roughly $70.00 back in the day."

I had an Ultimate seat on my Rune that made it more bearable. I did a 620 mile ride to Tenn. in 8 hr. + when I was "much" younger.

Amen. I currently have a Corbin, with an Airhawk cushion, and a sheepskin. It still sucks. Thinking about blowing some coin this winter and having an RDL made for the Rune. Have one on the K1600B and it is much better. BTW, the stock seat on the BMW was just about as awful as the stock seat on the Rune.

So the video....which I had never seen....was entertaining (and thank you for sharing it). But some "other" things that stood out to me.............as I watched and then started reading the comments after the video:

1. If that were my bike.....and I saw Jay keep putting his boot on the top of the exhaust....instead of on the foot pegs, I would have told him to get the hell off it and quit possibly scratching the chrome on the exhaust! He just keeps putting his foot on the exhaust instead of on the pegs........................
2. The comments section.................ohhhhh.................the comments.....like:
a. Jay has serial number 1, so he has the first one ever off the assembly line. Yea..................right..............we all know there were multiple "number 1's".....and I find it a bit doubtful he got THE FIRST ONE ever off the assembly line......
b. Only 1500 ever made. Yea, right............
c. They originally went for 22k....but everyone wanted Harleys more for that price tag, so they dropped to 15k ....but now they go for 40k. Right..............................I know, I'll let someone have my bike for a mere 35k if they want it....they'll save 5k!
d. Arlen Ness designed the bike. Yea, right..............of course......................

And on and on go the "informative", if not laughable at times..............comments................after the video............

But it was good to see the Rune get coverage and I liked watching the video. Just always have to roll my eyes at some of the comments and misconceptions...............

Oh, forgot to mention....AMEN...the stock seat had to be one of the worst modern bike seats I've ever sat on. 50 miles....tops....for me.....on that seat. I remember having one of the first Runes in the US (first one in Alabama....one of the first the World for that matter...August 2003), and NO one had any aftermarket seats in the beginning. I kept "pinging" Corbin....asking them when they were going to make one. I got mine when I went to Biketoberfest in Daytona that year (in October 2003). Corbin has a large shop there (not quite as big as the West Coast one of course). I had one of their designers come out in the parking lot with me....and take all sorts of measurements to get the seat I wanted.....JUST the way I wanted it. It was worth it.

I'm glad I kept the stock seat (in case I sell the bike some day).....but I ALMOST gave it away right on the spot after getting the Corbin. What a difference............................

That's where I also met Doug of Windvest and picked up my Windvest shield for the Rune. I had talked to him the month before Daytona....sent measurements back and forth to the Windvest Designer.....even got a "prototype" modified from a VTX that they sent me. But at Daytona they exchanged the prototype for the "real deal". So I got a comfortable seat and a windshield (that looked ok on the bike, in my opinion) at Daytona, and riding the Rune was much more comfortable after that. Eventually other things like Rivco Spider mount for pegs helped on the comfort too.

I also had to change out the forward bars for rear ones ......that made a big difference. But to get one of the first Runes out, you took what they had (most of the VERY first early ones were Black, forward bars and NO chrome wheels).

how much difference is the pullback on the bars vs the forward style are we talking say 4" or like 12" ?

I want a Rune but still haven't adopted one. thanks for any info

It is only ~1.5-2", but makes a big difference. Wish it were another 2" or so, and someone here made some along the way that were, at one point.
Night & day difference in the A & B bars. Shala's IB has the shorter version bars and I can barely tolerate a trip to town and back before I want back on my CBC with it's pull-back bars.
it was the same for my buddy 191 ticket master and myself until we went on a long ride on our RUNE’s,( this ride was a long early morning breakfast to late after dark supper ride.) our backside’s were in horrible pain for the next couple of hours until we went to sleep the next day was there was no mention of backside pain ……… then we took the long ride home …….. there was no backside pain for either and no pain from then on …… this ride was on stock seats …….. I think one has to put one through some pain like Boot Camp does to body and mind to succeed with issues at hand ,,,,,,, don’t know but that did it for us ….. no more backside pain on stock seats for us …….. man or woman up ….. be all you can be be a MARINE like myself ….. lol ….. I know we all can’t be a good Marine don’t be to hard on ones self…….. no all kidding aside maybe you have to push yourself hard to achieve success with pain ….
