I've started to notice a number of small chips appearing on the lower part of the front forks of my Rune. They're obviously made by small stones thrown from the tyres of other vehicles. ( I do a lot of close formation group riding with the VRCC). My point is that this should not happen with chromed steel. Good chroming on steel should be as tough as hell. The bike has only done four and a half thou. I never had this happen to me on any other bike
I'm going to talk to Honda about it, but before I do I wanted to know if anyone has had anything similar. I seem to remember some had something like this happen in a dust devil and Honda replaced their forks Any more info on this wound be greatly appreciated. :(

Good quality triple chroming shouldn't be fragile. I've never had anything like this happen to a bike of mine before. OK it might be said that the Rune forks are a little more exposed than most. But I've ridden other bikes with forks fairly exposed and I've also owned parallel twins in the past with the header pipes exposed up front to stones without this major chipping.
Like I said before, I believe one of our members got caught in a dust devil with caused pitting in his forks which Honda replaced under warrenty. Prehaps they're aware of there's a problem. If not then maybe they should be.
If I get no joy from Honda - and I'm not putting much hope in that direction - then I think I'll just put some clear plastic adhesive film on them for the future.
BTW this is still by far the best bike I have ever owned, and I couldn't be more happy with this exceptional bike, to put it mildly. It's just pi$$ed me off to see this chrome chipping happening so early to my pride and joy.

Paint Gard

Go to chapparels web site. They have a product by Snider (I think).
Called "Paint Gard" (spelling is correct)
Clear plastic static cling. I have it on my fender and front of my corbin windscreed. 11 bucks for 3, 8.5 x 11 sheets. It seems to work pretty good.

Pretty simple.

i also have some very fine, very small little pits or dings starting to form on the very front of my front fender on my Black Rune.

The only way to keep these things from happening is to either cover them up with some type of film....or ....to not ride.

Choice number two is OUT for me....
