Rechroming Radiator grill?

Has anyone had any success rechroming any of the plastic parts like the radiator grill? I've done a little research and see there are places that do it but I'm just curious if anyone has done it.

My radiator grill is really pitted. I live a couple miles from the ocean and the salt air is hard on chrome here. And that grill is a PITA to get to for polishing.

Or...does anyone have a lead on a new or good condition grill? I was never sure which part number was for the Black Runes

Cheers and happy 4th of July to this intrepid group!

Last I looked on partzilla...it was unavailable. (seems it still is...) Honda Motorcycle 2004 OEM Parts Diagram for RADIATOR GRILLE | Partzilla.com

There are a few videos on youtube on how to restore chrome plastic :
Thanks Falcon Wing - I would have never thought something like that would work without scratching the hell out of the chrome plastic. I've used a metal polishing compound with good success in the past on the plastic chromed parts in the past but it did take a some elbow grease. Being that the radiator grill was always such a pain to get to, I didn't get to it very often. But I'll give this a shot for sure.

I don't know if that would work.... the "chrome" on the grill is incredibly thin.... almost like it is a vinyl chrome wrap. Possibly try it in a non-visible location??

For sure...Much of the radiator grill isn't out in the open like the headlight cover so I'm not quite as concerned. But I'll def be lightly scrubbing somewhere out of view first. Hopefully I'll have a chance this weekend.

Okay, so I had a bit of luck...While my Rune was in for service and getting the new tires put on, they had to take the grill off (I was quoted 1-1/2 hrs of labor to have it removed!) so I went and picked it up. After rinsing off all the loose grime, I lubed it up with some Simple Green and started lightly scrubbing the corrosion. It worked great! Nothing you can do about the areas that were pitted all the way thru to the plastic, but for everything else, I think it worked quite well. It's not easy to take pics of the chrome but here is the 'before' grill:

And here is the after - I should have take the same perspective pics but I had to run it back so they could finish installing the front tire.

I didn't notice any other scratching from the cleaning either. So two thumbs up on the SOS pad method!

And wow...does she ride better after having all the fluids flushed and changed!!! I can't wait to ride more this summer!!
