Rune fairs poorly in RIDER magazine

The November '04 issue of RIDER magazine does a "power cruiser" comparison of the Rune, Vulcan, V-Rod, RocketIII, and V-Max. The Rune did not do too well, finishing fourth with the V-Rod in last place.

Magazine comparos always make for interesting reading! It is quite possible that the Rune did not fair well in their judgement, without having seen the article it is difficult to discern their criteria judged to reach the conclusions and therefore to agree or disagree. I also note that for every negaive article published, it is possible to find one that contradicts it. Journos are only human!

I know from experience that the Rune is a great thing, whether it is mobile or stationary, and the relatively limited numbers only enhance the appeal for me.

The merits of the other bikes have been discussed on this forum previously and I can see merit in most things the manufacturers throw at the market though they would not be of my choosing.

The best part of this world is that every person is entitled to their opinion, it would be a boring place if people only bought a bike cause it won best bike and there was no variety to colour the world! It is much more fun to pull up somewhere and appreciate the merits of someone else's weapon of choice and to bask in the pride of your own.

I reread the article and you are right. The Rune is as they say "A little harsh riding but looks good, but should with a price tag of $26,999". We got to love them no mater what other folks say.

At least it finished ahead of the V-Rod! I like how Harley finally caught up with 1985 and everyone calls it an innovative bike!
Eye of the beholder

I’ve not read the article, but if their only criticisms relate to the harsh ride and purchase price, then so what? Apparently the magazine said it “looks good,” according to Adrian.

We all know the Rune rides tight and what they cost. We also know that “looks good” is a grossly misstated understatement. I would venture to say the primary reason we own a Rune is because of the way it looks.

The V-Rod “looks good” but parked next to a Rune it pales. One gets the impression you could pick the V-Rod up, put it under your arm and walk off. The Rune looks like a massive work of art.

The article author’s opinion of the selected motorcycles is probably well received by most readers having a vested interest. There are a lot more owners of Vulcans, V-Rods, RocketIIIs, and the V-Max than there are of the Rune; and that is another reason we own one.
Hi Bros
J had been introduced to the harley riders of my town. it is a small town and we are all friends.
hei the coment j heard is

the only bike (my Rune) which could be accepted in the group (hahahha all astonished about my Rune)

Italian rider magazine are talkinng about Rocket 2300 as a fantastic bike but riders are asking how much money the magazine get for such publicity as this bike not good.

J do not take care about poor press news on the Rune. It is limited but will astonish us for years.
J owe my Rune for one year, 16th october Rune birthday, but anytime j see it j enjoy my eyes. that's art.
Honda should continue on this line, j hope so.

ciao

That article was in CRUISER magazine, I read the whole article.
They liked the bike except for the rear suspension, which is no surprise to me. The one tester said she was buying a black one!
But their editor needs to pay closer attention to the photos they print,
there are pictures of each bike with the view being what you'd see if you sat on each bike and looked forward, they labled the Rune and Rocket III
pictures wrong!
Good rag, but seems to be leaned towards the VTX in lots of the articles.
Cruiser? mine says Rider! I'll have to search the magizine rack for an issue of Cruiser to compare articles. Either way I still vote for the Rune, it's just to wild of a ride .

Compare the Big Cruisers

If they are comparing value, that is purely subjective.... If they are asked "what is the best cruiser in the world" hmmm .... let me think for a milisecond.... oh that would be the Rune...
Just got my Rider Mag and they had the dyno charts of todays Power Cruisers

Rocket III- 127.2 hp 140.8 torque

V-Max - 111.8 hp 79 torque

Valkyrie Rune - 96.3 hp 108.6 torque

V-Rod - 105.6 hp 71.9 torque

Vulcan 2000 - 96 hp 119.4 torque
OK, it is faster

It may be faster, but it's not pretty.

I'm pretty and so is my Rune.

looks worst in person. Go check it out at the shop. you'll be surprised at what it looks like in person.
I haven't seen a Rune in the flesh I admit but I can't imagine it looks any worse. The Rocket on the other hand is much improved in person.
