Snap!! went the side stand. It has been a little difficult to lower the side stand from the seated position since I had the Rune. After changing the Final Drive gear oil I lowered the Rune from my lift and I asked my friend to lower the side stand. As you can see in the image the extended part of the side stand snapped off. I would like to share 2 observations, 1st is regarding the weld. It seemed that the weld was rusting from the inside out as there is no visible imperfection on the chrome. There could have been a minor imperfection in the chroming not in sight or the weld was just not strong enough to hold the way it was lowered. The 2nd note is that side stand was press from a standing position adjacent to the rear fender which probably exacerbated the weak/rusted weld as there was more of a push forward with the foot instead of down from a seated position. I replaced the part at Partzilla.com $225.00 shipped. The part name and SKU # is Side Stand Bar 50530-MEC-000. Although there are multiple choices I was told they are all the same side stand.

Be safe

"Side stand snap has happened before. I think the build of it could have been better.

I believe there is only one choice of "SIDE STAND BAR 50530-MEC-000"? The same item is listed for
each of the different Rune versions/models, be it DA, EB, etc. Most times the different versions/models don't come into play unless it like wheels, bars, California emissions stuff, etc. Like 04 vs 05 items."
This may have been design over functionality. They probably dint want the Side Stand to obvious. The price we pay, not complaining.

"Poor quality of a weld covered over with chrome.
The weld easily could have been a more substantial one that was blended/ground/smoothed to make the two pieces seamlessly look as one. It isn't a cheap piece, like most Rune parts.

If you don't have a paper parts catalog already, it helps.

Good suggestion, I was quite surprised how detailed Partzilla.com was. I may have the old stand welded for backup. Hating not riding and the wait for part.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Happy to hear that it wasn't the pivot point weld that gave way!
I bought a Rune earlier this year and found that it was difficult to activate the side stand while seated with my foot. The stand seemed to be locked in the upward position. I thought that was strange because Honda products are usually nigh on ergonomic perfection. While performing maintenance duties, I ascertained that the reason for difficulty to lower the side stand was due to the previous owners lack of maintenance. I removed built up grime and sludge, then lubricated the pivot. It now deploys easily, as it should.
It was a good reminder to myself to check and complete any and all maintenance.
That's exactly what I plan on doing when I get the new one as wells as having the old one welded and keep as a spare.

"Use all the lubrication, etc. you want, if it has a bad weld (not done correctly, not cleaned, etc) and it's covered over by chrome, it's a ticking time bomb waiting to break"
Agreed, I guess this one had a bad weld. As I mentioned before I am going to have it welded properly and probably rechromed and put it back on the Rune. I'll keep the new one as backup.

"I'd remove just enough of the old chrome to reweld, and tape off original good chrome and paint the rest (new weld area, etc) back in black or CBC paint from Color Rite to match bike for a different one-off look."
The welded one will be a spare. If the weld is really good I may not need to rechome or paint.

To All, so its been 10 days since I ordered the new Side Kick Stand from Partzilla, still hasn't arrived. I should have noticed/asked which way they ship when they offered Free Shipping. They shipped it "Best Way". Best way is usually UPS to USPS for the last mile. Its the Best Way for the shipper, cheaper, not the buyer. In hind site I should have ordered from a Honda dealer and picked it up. To me, Free Shipping and waiting 2 weeks is not Free of aggravation nor anticipation. I am so used to Amazon delivery, they make everyone look so bad.

Update on new Side Stand: Patrzilla never delivered the part they stated it was mailed but a month later no go. I was not thinking when I ordered from on from them when I could have called local Honda dealer, which I wound up doing. Picked up the part 5 days later. Install went relatively well, just didnt have the right tool to load the spring. Really difficult. Surprisingly the new Side Stand goes up and down with ease without greasing. There must have been dirt buildup where it hinges. This ends the Snap, went the side stand saga. Thanks for the support.
