I get to go to another biker funeral this afternoon, went to one two weeks ago also. Two guys I knew of course, same story in both deaths.
Early morning 1-3 a.m., single vehicle accidents, blood alcohol .05 or greater. Recent AMA stats, 46% of US motorcyclist fatalities in 2004 had BA of.05 or higher.
From the early days when the Booze Fighters were drinkin and ridin it has been thought to be exceptable to ride around with your friends from bar to bar throwin down the booze, some bikes today are still labled as
"Bar Hoppers".
Riding a motorcycle is inherently dangerous, when you add alcohol to the equation you just doubled that danger at a minimum. I do my drinkin when I'm done ridin for the day. I refuse to become a alcohol related statistic.
I have to wonder if the funerals for these guys I knew could have been delayed for awhile had they not been drinkin. I'll end my soap box speech here, thanks for listening.
